Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to lead teams in various capacities—sometimes with a formal title and often by simply stepping up when it was needed most. But I’ve also spent just as much time on the other side of the desk as a direct report. I created this space to share the practical, hands-on lessons I’ve gathered to help others navigate their own career paths, no matter which side of the “report” line they are on.
I am a firm believer in the power of cohesive teams. My goal is to distill what I’ve learned about fostering a “team-first” mentality into grounded, actionable advice for:
- Managers and Team Leads: Looking to build trust, drive results, and support their people.
- Direct Reports: Seeking ways to manage up, navigate team dynamics, and grow their influence.
I believe the best lessons don’t just come from a highlight reel. The insights shared here are drawn from:
- The Full Spectrum of Experience: Both the hard-won successes and the messy failures that taught me the most.
- Observations of Others: Lessons learned while working under different leadership styles.
- “Hanmen Kyoshi” (反面教師): Learning from “negative role models”—identifying behaviors we should avoid to ensure we don’t replicate them ourselves.
I’ll be diving into all of these perspectives as I build out this resource. I’m excited to share this journey with you.
